Books, luverly books continued…

While talking about favourite books, it go me thinking about novels and summer reading. My reading can be very sporadic – I either don’t read much (usually because I am a bit distracted by work) or I go through a phase where I don’t feel comfortable unless there is a pile of books by my bedside (which is where I am now).

I just read two back to back that were coincidentally about twins and both had a bit of a supernatural element in them.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is a dark and mysterious tale. A bit Jane Eyre-ish (in fact Jane Eyre is mentioned quite a lot) and a perfect book for curling up with on a rainy day.

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger is a wonderful book. I couldn’t put it down and while I tried my best to stretch it out so that it would last, I ended up whizzing through it. The characters stayed with me for days and the vivid descriptions of Highgate Cemetery made me want to jump on a plane to London and give it a visit.

Next up: Curiosity by Joan Thomas.

I would love to hear any recommendations that you may have for summer reading.

Thanks for the recommendations! I just read Arcadia Falls, by Carol Goodman. It is a mystery taking place in a small private art school in upstate New York which was founded by women who are loosely based on the Red Rose Girls. Such a fun book. A similar book which I also enjoyed is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.
